Bible in 90 – Day 51: Extra Life

Go and tell Hezekiah: Thus said the Lord, the God of your father David: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears. I hereby add fifteen years to your life.

Isaiah 38:5

As a boy I loved playing video games at home or at arcades. One of the most exciting times on a video games is finding a “life” when you need it most. You are on your last turn, trying to get to the next level and lo and behold, right when your opponent is about to end your game you get another chance. It does not last forever but it gives you an opportunity to continue.

Hezekiah had seen God some amazing things and when he got sick and was told by God that he would die he pleaded for God to give him a “life.” God answered his prayer and gave him fifteen more years of life.

If you were given a specific amount of time for your life, how would you live it? Would it become a countdown or would you be fully present to each day?

Each day is a gift from God. Life is not guaranteed, no one owes us another day. Day by day we wake up and have the opportunity to make a difference in the world. Are we living each day as if it is a gift, as if we have been given an extra life?
