Being Christian: Eucharist – A Poem

Chicago Cenacle Retreat Center

A dozing last piece
of daily preparation.

Re-membering

simpler times, ritual times
of peaceful recollection
or maybe
of opportuned inspiration.

Re-membering

the living past ease
in present manifestation.

Re-membering

hiking steps to stay away
yet hunger winning the inner sway
of emotion, apathy, & hyperbolic despair.

Re-membering

the singing loud tease
of communal exhortation.

Re-membering

forgotten movement
intimate encounter
clear promise,
mumbled in walking.

Re-membering

feasting as my feeble front
faces foward,
finding friends, freedom, & future

Re-membering

bread and wine
God’s way
to lead me back
remembering that
I am resistant
hungry
sustained
accompanied
broken yet whole!

I am re-membering

The moment when grace
invaded my soul’s hesitation
seeding transformation
rising in my soul’s space.
